Captain's Chair, ca. 1905, ash and birch.
The seat was cracked. All the turnings, leg and back were loose and required re-gluing.
The chair was disassembled and re-glued using a hide glue. The original finish on this chair could have been salvaged, but the client requested that the chair be refinished. A walnut wood stain was used, followed by a varnish finish. Once the varnish had cured, the chair was rubbed with "0000" grade steel wool and paste wax.
